Why a pure white background matters

"White" in a photo is rarely white. Room lighting, shadows and camera white balance usually leave a background somewhere between light grey and cream, often around RGB 230-245. That looks fine on its own, but next to a page or a marketplace grid that is true white, the difference shows as a dull grey box around your product. This tool replaces the background with exactly RGB 255, 255, 255 (#FFFFFF), so the edges of the photo disappear into the page.

Where you need a white background

Amazon main images

Amazon requires a pure white background (RGB 255, 255, 255) on the main product image, with the product filling about 85% of the frame. Listings that break the rule can be suppressed from search.

eBay, Shopify & Google Shopping

Not always mandatory, but a clean white background is the recommended standard. It keeps a catalog grid looking consistent and puts the attention on the product instead of the room it was shot in.

Passport & ID photos

US passport photos need a plain white or off-white background. Other countries set their own rules (some ask for light grey or blue), so check your government's photo guidelines before submitting. For blue, use the blue background tool.

CVs, LinkedIn & team pages

A white backdrop makes headshots taken in different places look like one consistent set, without booking a studio.

Tips for the cleanest white-background result

  1. Shoot with contrast. A product that differs in color from its background gives the AI a cleaner edge. White products on a white table are the hardest case.
  2. Crop after, not before. Leave a little space around the subject so no edges are cut off, then crop to the marketplace's fill ratio.
  3. Pick the right format. Use JPG for marketplace uploads (smaller files, white stays white) and PNG when you need lossless quality for further editing.
  4. Check the corners. Open the result on a white page. If you cannot see where the image ends, the background is pure white.
  5. Need no background at all? Use the transparent background tool for a PNG cutout instead.

White background FAQ

How do I make a photo background pure white without Photoshop?

Upload your photo above. The AI cuts out the subject in your browser and fills everything behind it with pure white (#FFFFFF). Download the result as JPG, PNG or WebP. There are no layers or masks to draw.

Is this white background compliant with Amazon and Shopify product photo requirements?

The output background is exactly RGB 255, 255, 255, which is the pure white Amazon asks for on main product images. Amazon also expects the product to fill about 85% of the frame, so crop tightly before or after changing the background.

How do I make an existing off-white or grey background whiter?

Run the photo through this tool instead of brightening it. Brightening also washes out the product, while replacing the background swaps grey shadows and off-white tints for uniform white and leaves the subject untouched.

Does making the background white reduce image resolution or clarity?

No. The image is processed at its original resolution. Choose PNG for zero compression loss, or JPG at high quality for smaller marketplace uploads.
