Quick, anxiety-free countertop tipping. Enter your order total and tap a preset.
Etiquette tip: $1–$2 or 10–15% is customary for counter service. Zero pressure or awkwardness.
Includes $2.00 tip (12.5%)
Made for the moment the tablet screen turns around to face you:
Type what the screen shows before the tip, for example $16.50 for two tacos and a drink.
Choose No Tip, $1, $2 or $3, or switch to 10%, 15% or 20%. A custom amount works too.
Tick round up to bring the total to the next whole dollar, so $16.50 becomes $17.00 with the difference added to the tip.
Counter service tipping works differently from a sit-down meal:
At a counter a dollar or two is normal, so flat $1, $2 and $3 buttons come first instead of the 18–25% presets built for table service.
Under $10, the calculator suggests a $1–$2 tip or a round-up. For $30 or more, such as a group or catering order, it suggests 15–18%.
One tick rounds the total to the next whole dollar, which is handy when paying cash or when you just want an even number.
All the maths runs in your browser, so it still works at a festival with a weak signal.
Quick-service orders and what a fair tip looks like:
A $9 order. A $1 tip, or rounding up to $10, is a friendly gesture without overthinking it.
A $6.75 oat-milk latte with extra shots. $1 is common, or round up to $7.75 or $8.
A $64 pickup order for eight people. Larger orders take more work to prepare, so 15% (about $9.60) is customary.
A $14 order of four cones. $2 or 10–15% is fair, and the calculator shows both at once.
Why the usual restaurant numbers don't fit a food truck:
| Feature / Capability | Food Truck & Counter | Sit-Down Restaurant |
|---|---|---|
| Typical tip | $1–$2 flat or 10–15% | 15–20% or more |
| Is a tip expected? | Optional and appreciated | Expected in the US |
| Large orders | 15–18% for group or catering orders | Often an automatic service charge |
| Presets in this calculator | $1, $2, $3 and 10%, 15%, 20% | 15%, 18%, 20%, 25% |
