Calculate fair tips for your stylist and shampoo assistant in seconds. Excludes retail products automatically.
Includes $34.00 in tips
Split one appointment into stylist tip, assistant tip and what goes on the card:
Type the price of the cut, colour, blowout or treatment only. Leave out anything you bought to take home.
Tap 15%, 18%, 20% or 25% for your stylist, then choose None, $5, $10, $15 or a custom amount for the person who washed your hair.
Open the optional section to enter retail products and sales tax. Products are added to the total but never to the tip.
A salon visit has more people and more line items than a restaurant bill:
A $40 bottle of styling oil should not raise your tip by $8. The calculator tips on the service amount and adds products to the total separately.
See exactly how much goes to your stylist and how much to the shampoo assistant, instead of one lump sum someone has to divide later.
Many clients hand the assistant cash. Tick the cash envelope box and the assistant tip is kept off the card total, so you know what to charge and what to bring in cash.
The tip is worked out on the service price before sales tax. You can switch to tipping on the taxed amount if you prefer.
Typical appointments and how the tip works out:
A $220 balayage plus a $38 purple toner. At 20% the stylist tip is $44, calculated on the $220 only. The toner is added to the total with no tip on it.
A $45 trim where an assistant washed your hair. 20% gives the stylist $9, and $5 in cash is a common thank-you for the assistant.
A $35 cut and beard trim at a barbershop. 18–20% works out to about $6–$7, often rounded to a clean amount.
A long $350 colour correction with two assistants helping. Tip the lead stylist by percentage and give each assistant their own flat amount.
What changes when the bill comes from a salon:
| Feature / Capability | Salon Tip Calculator | Regular Tip Calculator |
|---|---|---|
| Retail products | Excluded from the tip, added to the total | Tips on the whole bill, products included |
| Shampoo assistant | Separate flat or percentage amount | No way to tip a second person |
| Cash vs card | Shows the card charge and the cash envelope apart | One combined total |
| Tip presets | 15%, 18%, 20%, 25% plus custom | Usually a single slider |
